Can you define professionalism? Or how would you define it? I think everybody have their own ideas about professionalism. So lets us talk about it. Professionalism is not just wearing a good and nice clothes or a tie in your neck, but it is more than our external appearance. Practically, on the other hand in order to prove that you are professional, you have to look like a professional with all your “professionalism” appearance. Think about the people you respect most; now let’s answer why you would think of them. Can you identify the elements that made them so good?
First of all let’s define professionalism; it is the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterise or mark a professional person. While professional means of or belonging to a profession. In addition, it means doing something as a job rather than as a hobby. So in our case as a student, our profession is to study, gain knowledge and develop our soft skills. In conclusion based on the definition, to be professionalism, a professional person should do the best in their profession.
Here are some qualities which we can emulate to be professionalism:
1. A good role model for others
Role models trust in being themselves. A role model provides inspiration and motivation to seek out accomplishments. They are very confident in thinking and all the actions in their life. A good role model also does what they say and keep their promises. Moreover, a role model is honest and doesn't lie.
A role model possesses integrity and does the right thing even if no one is looking or they do not receive acknowledgment for their act. They listen to others and also consider opposing points of view. They treat others how they would want to be treated and is considerate of others. When making mistakes, a role model does not place the blame on others and attempt to learn from their mistakes.
2. Good Time Keepers
They always do things before time and uses time well. The way you manage your time reflects who you are. People who improve their time management improve their quality of life. There are only 24 hours in our day, so use those 24 hours maximally for your advantage. Some of us manage to get more accomplished because they use time more efficiently. There is difference between successful and responsible adults and others who don’t value time. When you get into the habit of procrastinating as a student, you tend to do the same when you’re an adult. Habits that are learned when young are hard to change the older you become.
In addition, when you know how to manage time well, you can learn more effectively, you become very skill full at studying quickly and more efficiently and this allows you more time to do other things.
3. Share your knowledge
Sharing is caring. Many successful people in this world share their knowledge. By sharing your knowledge, you gain more then you lose. When the knowledge is shared, it will become easier for others to get the information faster. Sharing knowledge from insights, past experience and academic learning among colleagues helps to develop our general knowledge and experiences as there are new viewpoints and ideas.
Apart from that, the feedback that you get will help you to build self-confidence and personal development. You also can contribute indirectly in developing your society by this way. Moreover, you can provide your new generation with more powerful knowledge and advanced way of thinking.
4. Self-discipline
Self-discipline means that you think about your words and actions and then make choices that are right for you and for others. Successful students attend classes regularly, they are on time. They listen and train themselves to pay attention. Take responsibility for themselves and their actions.
They also will work hard and not give up when it gets tough and stick to something until it is finished. In other words, they don't give up, they keep trying. They make choices that help them be the best they can be and do what they think is right and work at doing their best. Being well prepared for the future should be a quality that good students have.
Together we can make this “professional day” a very successful day organized by PERUBATAN.
